What is Exposed Aggregate?

Exposed aggregate is a decorative style of concrete suitable for driveways, patios, and paths. We pour a heavy-duty concrete mix loaded with attractive natural stones (pebbles, basalt, or quartz). By carefully washing away the top layer of cement paste, we “expose” the stones underneath. This creates a surface that is extremely hard-wearing, textured, and visually interesting.

Maximum Slip Resistance

Safety is the primary advantage of exposed aggregate. The raised stone texture provides superior traction for tyres and shoes, even in wet or icy conditions. It is the ideal choice for families with children, elderly relatives, or sloping driveways.

Commercial Durability

This isn’t just a decorative finish; it’s structural concrete. It can withstand heavy vehicle traffic, oil drips, and harsh weather without sinking or shifting. Unlike block paving, there are no gaps for weeds to grow or ants to nest.

Architectural Appeal

Exposed aggregate offers a high-end, modern aesthetic that blends seamlessly with landscaping. It provides the organic look of gravel without the mess of loose stones migrating into your house or lawn.

Ideal Applications

Where should you use exposed aggregate? Its versatility makes it perfect for both domestic and commercial projects.

Steep Driveways

Standard smooth concrete can be slippery on a slope. Aggregate provides the necessary mechanical grip for vehicles to climb safely.

Pool Surrounds & Patios

A fantastic non-slip surface for wet areas. It feels robust underfoot and prevents slips around hot tubs or swimming pools.

Commercial Plazas

Durable enough for high foot traffic in shopping areas or office entrances, while looking significantly more premium than tarmac.

Decorative Pathways

Create winding garden paths that look natural and earthy, blending into your flower beds rather than standing out starkly.
